US trade deficit widens in Dec ’24

The US international trade deficit widened to $122.1 billion in December, marking an $18.6 billion increase from the $103.5 billion deficit in November. Exports of goods fell to $167.5 billion, down $7.8 billion from November, while imports rose to $289.6 billion, up $10.8 billion from the previous month.

Advance Wholesale Inventories

Wholesale inventories for December stood at $898.0 billion, showing a 0.5 per cent decrease from November and a 0.1 per cent dip from December 2023. The November estimate was revised from a 0.2 per cent decline to 0.1 per cent.

Advance Retail Inventories

Retail inventories reached $823.3 billion in December, down 0.3 per cent from November but up 5.7 per cent year-on-year. The change from October to November was revised from a 0.2 per cent increase to virtually no change.
