Venezuelan opposition holds first primary

Venezuelans voted yesterday in the country’s first opposition primary, which is expected to select a young state governor to challenge Hugo Chavez later this year in what could be a close-run presidential election.

 

All eyes were on the turnout as a key test of the opposition’s strength. Miranda state governor Henrique Capriles, 39, leads by as much as 20 percentage points.
