Virginia restores 44 stolen artworks to Egypt, Italy, Türkiye

Virginia’s state-run fine arts museum said this week that it will restore 44 ancient works that an investigation showed had been stolen from Egypt, Italy, and Türkiye, according to the Washington Post on Wednesday.

The items which were seized on November 30 included a cosmetics container in the form of a god from ancient Egypt, a spokesperson for Homeland Security Investigations said by email.

Among the illegally acquired objects was a statue of an Etruscan warrior, stolen directly from its display in Bologna’s Museo Civico Archeologico in 1963, a statement published by the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts said.
