The head of the Wasat Party, Essam Sultan, has been found innocent of charges of insulting the judiciary, a Cairo criminal court ruled on Saturday.
Sultan and two others who supported ousted president Mohamed Morsi were accused of insulting the judiciary during televised interviews they conducted.
Sultan was a member of the 2012 parliament. His party, Wasat, had proposed amending the judiciary law which would have seen the retirement age for judges lowered from 70 to 60. The party argued that this would rid the judiciary of judges from the Hosni Mubarak era.
The law was condemned by many judges who argued it was an infringement on judicial independence.
