WEPCO expands Al Hamra Port capacity, boosts production

Western Desert Operating Petroleum Co. (WEPCO) reported on Sunday significant operational milestones during its general assembly.

WEPCO President Ibrahim Masoud highlighted the receipt of 81 million barrels of crude oil at Al Hamra Port’s storage facilities. The company successfully shipped 27 million barrels via marine facilities and supplied 54 million barrels to domestic refineries. Additionally, WEPCO completed critical safety upgrades to the fire-fighting system in the southern expansion area.

The assembly reviewed WEPCO’s ongoing and planned projects, focusing on the expansion of Al Hamra Port’s storage capacity to 10.5 million barrels. Construction is underway on reservoirs 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, and 16.

In the southern expansion area, WEPCO is building new diesel and jet fuel reservoirs to enhance capacity and infrastructure. Petrojet is leading the construction project, prioritising local content and accelerating its implementation.

Masoud also announced the successful production from the Badr X10 exploratory well, which is yielding 15 million cubic feet of gas and 550 barrels of crude oil per day.

WEPCO remains committed to increasing production and efficiency in line with the Ministry of Petroleum’s strategy. The company has achieved a significant milestone by producing 1.5 million barrels of crude oil at the lowest cost per barrel. Through drilling seven exploratory wells, 20 development wells, and maintaining aging wells, WEPCO has increased its proven oil and gas reserves by 2 million barrels of oil equivalent.

By modernising field infrastructure with advanced technologies, WEPCO is aligning with digital transformation initiatives while ensuring operational safety.
