World Bank raises Egypt’s 2026/27 growth forecast to 4.3%

The World Bank raised on Tuesday its forecast for Egypt’s economic growth in fiscal year 2026/2027 to 4.3 per cent, up 0.3 percentage points from its previous April estimate, citing stronger-than-expected economic activity.

Egypt’s real gross domestic product expanded by around 5.3% in the first half of FY2025/2026, compared with 3.9 per cent in the same period a year earlier, supported by stronger non-oil manufacturing, a gradual recovery in Suez Canal traffic, and robust performance in tourism and telecommunications.

Real GDP per capita growth is projected to reach 2.5 per cent in FY2026/2027, indicating slower growth in average economic output per person than in headline GDP.

The World Bank expects average inflation to rise to 14.2 per cent in FY2026/2027.
