World Energy Council: Egypt needs LE140 billion to solve electricity shortages

Maher Aziz, member of the World Energy Council, said Egypt needs LE140 billion (US$18.2 billion) to solve electricity shortages, adding that Egypt does not welcome any US interference in this issue.
“The United States will not help Egypt get out of this problem,” he said.
He told the Al-Ghad Al-Arabi news channel that there was no problem this year, thanks to expansions in nine power
stations to produce 3,600 extra megawatts.
He said Egypt plans to use coal, nuclear power and wind energy to overcome shortages in the near future during the coming period, adding that the outages of before would not happen again.
