Zimbabwean President assures on union to take tangible measures for climate change – COP27

Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa has stressed on Tuesday for the importance of the African Union to take tangible measures to confront the repercussions of climate change and its negative impacts, according to his speech at COP27.

Mnangagwa said, “Sharm El Sheikh summit comes at a time when the world is still suffering from the repercussions and effects of climate change, which has destroyed people’s lives and livelihoods in all inhabited regions.”

He also stressed the need to listen to the African continent’s demands about the steps that must be taken to confront climate change, and implement all the pledges made to face the repercussions of climate change.

Mnangagwa further added that the grave risks faced by the agricultural sector in Zimbabwe as a result of climate change.

He referred to the implementation of many projects by the State of Zimbabwe to build dams in order to adapt and mitigate the effects of climate change and achieve sustainable food security in the country.

In addition to that Mnangagwa assured on his country’s commitment to using renewable energy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to reach 44.7 million tons of carbon dioxide by 2030.

The Zimbabwean president finalised his speech calling for the need to lift all illegal economic sanctions and sanctions on his country, stressing his country’s full readiness to play its role in addressing climate change facing the entire world.
