Egypt’s Zohr gas field development resumed; minister confirms

Development works at Zohr gas field have been resumed, with drilling operations on two new wells scheduled to begin within the current month, Minister of Petroleum Karim Badawy told the Senate on Sunday.

Minister Badawy also highlighted the launch of the Mineral Resources Portal in 2025, designed to attract more investment into Egypt’s mining sector. The platform will facilitate exploration and licensing processes while enabling investors to access vital information on available opportunities.

The Zohr gas field, discovered in 2015, is a cornerstone of Egypt’s energy strategy, representing a significant natural resource for the country. With this resumption of development, Egypt aims to maximise the field’s output, boosting economic growth and securing energy stability for the region.

This renewed focus on Zohr aligns with the government’s broader objectives to attract foreign investment, optimise resource utilisation, and support the national economy through strategic energy initiatives.
