29 injured In Egypt’s Menoufiya Train Fire

Almost 30 people were injured when four train carriages caught fire in Menoufiya, in Egypt’s Nile Delta on Monday morning.

The fire grounded train services on the Tanta-Menoufiya-Cairo line, railway spokesperson Nagwa Albert Habib told Ahram Online.

The injured were transferred to hospital, a local health official told Al-Ahram Arabic news website.

The fire took place near Shebin El-Kom city on a train travelling from Cairo to Tanta.

A huge fire on a train in Sharqiya left one dead in October 2014.

Egypt has been hit by a number of train crashes in the past years, shedding light t on its poorly maintained railway tracks.

In 2002, one of the deadliest railway tragedies in Egypt took place, as the bodies of more than 360 bodies were recovered from a train after a fire.
