464 sentenced for Death in First Year of Sisi’s Rule – Report

The Egyptian Observatory of Rights and Freedoms has reported that both Egyptian military and civilian courts issued 92,420 sentences against Egyptian citizens during the first year of Abdul-Fatah Al-Sisi’s rule, including 464 death sentences.

In a report about the violations of fair trials in Egypt, the Observatory said that the Egyptian civil courts issued their rulings in 570 cases and the military courts issued rulings in 17 other cases.

According to the report, 92,420 Egyptians were sentenced before both military and civil courts. Of the 464 citizens sentenced to death, seven have already been executed. The report also stated that 4,800 others were sentenced to 39,040 years, while 772 were sentenced to life sentences.

The courts, the report said, cleared 3,457 Egyptians. Others were exempted from their sentences and 214 were resentenced.

In addition, the courts imposed financial bails estimated to be around $16,800.
