5 Egyptian banks make it onto The Banker’s top 1000 banks list

The Banker magazine has included five Egyptian banks in its annual top 1,000 world banks, according to a statement issued by the general secretariat of the Union of Arab Banks (UAB) on Tuesday.

The Egyptian banks made it onto the list alongside 80 other Arab banks, which also entered the top 1,000 list.

The Egyptian banks rated by The Banker included the National Bank of Egypt (NBE), Banque Misr, the Commercial International Bank (CIB), the Arab African International Bank (AAIB), and Banque Du Caire.

The UAE had the largest number of banks on The Banker list with 20, followed by Saudi Arabia with 12. Both Lebanon and Qatar ranked third with 10 banks, Bahrain ranked fourth with 9 banks, and Kuwait ranked fifth with 8 banks.  Saudi banks topped the list according to the total volume of assets, amounting to about US$578 billion.
