5.8-Magnitude Quake Hits Northern Italy

A 5.8-magnitude earthquake has shaken much of northern Italy, causing some buildings to collapse in areas hit by a larger quake on May 20. No injuries were reported immediately.

The United States Geological Survey said the quake struck around 9:00 a.m. local time (0800 GMT) and was centered 40 kilometers (25 miles) northwest of Bologna. It caused tents housing evacuees from the previous quake to shake.

Schools and stores throughout the area were evacuated as a precaution.
