EgyptAir to operate special flight to Canada Wednesday
EgyptAir will operate a special flight to Canada on Wednesday to bring 344 Canadians home, as the Egyptian airspace remains open to allow tourists to return home and bring Egyptians back in repatriation flights from abroad, Ahram Online reported on Tuesday.
The Canadian Embassy in Egypt announced that a repatriation flight had successfully been arranged with EgyptAir to depart on Wednesday for Toronto.
“Departing Cairo for Toronto on Wednesday, the flight will bring 344 Canadians home. We continue to work hard on identifying options for other Canadians who may wish to leave Egypt,” it said.
Canadian Ambassador to Egypt Jess Dutton tweeted “special thanks to @EGYPTAIR for this flight & the @CanEmbEgypt team for working long hours to make it happen”.
Air Cairo will offer multiple flights to London on 12 April with the possibility of onward connections to Canada, the embassy said.
Egypt is keeping its airspace open to inbound charter and regular flights arriving empty to transport outbound passengers, and to cargo and domestic flights, during a temporary suspension of air traffic since mid March.
Traffic at airports have been restricted to mainly repatriation flights since the suspension, which has seen an extension until 15 April.
UK Embassy in Egypt Geoffrey Adams said AirCairo will operate two additional flights on Sunday, 12 April to London, urging remaining visitors to Egypt who usually reside in the UK to book now.
“We are not aware of further flights after this date,” he tweeted.
The US Embassy in Cairo also announced that a direct flight is available Wednesday, April 8 from Cairo to Paris/Charles de Gaulle (CDG) on the private carrier AirCairo.
“US citizens are allowed to purchase tickets on this flight and transit Paris/CDG if they also have direct connections to onward flights to the United States,” it said.
They can then book flights to New York and Los Angeles directly on the Air France website.
“The US Embassy continues to work with the Egyptian government and foreign Embassy partners to identify or arrange options for US citizens who wish to depart Egypt,” it said.
