Danone was declared during its annual general meeting as the first ‘Entreprise à Mission’ under the French “PACTE” law, which will have a tremendous positive impact on the future of the company.
Accepting this mission is a statement of commitment that resonates loudly and harmoniously with the brand’s frame of action “One Planet. One Health.”
Adopting the ‘Entreprise à Mission’ stance will affect all of Danone’s headquarters and branches across the globe including those in Egypt by aligning the local markets and steering them towards the company’s goals derived from the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Emmanuel Faber, Chairman and CEO, said: “At a time where companies are indisputably showing every day their contribution to society as a whole, and with the imperative of collective action, I am thrilled that all our shareholders decided that Danone would become today the first listed Entreprise à Mission. I am convinced that the more our business demonstrates that it is working for all its stakeholders, the more it will create value and be recognized for that.”
To encourage the sense of shared responsibility, last year all Danone employees were each granted one share of the company. This announcement has turned all employees into official shareholders in the company as well as loyal partners who have the brand’s best interest at heart.
Danone Egypt had already contributed to the UN Sustainable Development Goals in several social and environmental projects. In partnership with Care International and supported by the Danone Ecosystem Fund, Danone Egypt has set up 10 Milk Collection Communities titled – Alban Baladna – in Beni Suef, Kafr EL Sheikh, Fayoum and Nubaria supporting more than 4,000 farmers.
In addition to this, in collaboration with the National Bank of Egypt, Danone Egypt signed a protocol to support its social project, “Omda” launched in early 2010 to enable young entrepreneurs in buying trucks to distribute Danone dairy products in rural areas. Today, there are 180 distributors providing Danone’s fresh dairy products to about 18,000 selling points, serving 3 million consumers
As part of Danone’s mission for a healthier and happier Egypt, the company is putting together a nutrition awareness program in partnership with the Ministry of Education. The program titled, “5 x 5” is built around the concept of five meals a day containing 5 essential nutritional elements such as: dairy, vegetables, fruit, carbohydrates and protein. Since its launch in October 2016, the program has reached 140,000 children and 25,000 mothers in 180 schools across Egypt’s governorates.
