Egypt ends Uganda tariffs crisis on its exports of iron sheets
Egypt has ended the crisis resulting from a 35 percent customs tariffs imposed by Uganda on Egyptian exports of iron sheets in violation to the COMESA agreement, Trade Minister Nevine Gamea announced on Sunday.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade’s Egyptian Commercial Service (ECS) contacted the Ugandan authorities in the past few months to end the crisis, Gamea added.
In 2019, Egypt’s exports to Uganda reached $112 million, said Ahmed Maghawry, Head of the ECS.
Egypt’s top exports to the Ugandan market included paper, food products, building materials, chemical products, plastics, steel sheets, agriculture crops, granite, and marble.
