Egypt’s Sisi orders rise in minimum wage, 13% hike in pensions

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has raised the government employees’ minimum wage to 2,400 Egyptian pounds ($152.8) a month from 2,000 pounds.

He also ordered an increase of around 13 percent in pensions.

The decisions were made during a meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Finance Minister Mohamed Maait to discuss the financial year 2021/2022 new budget.

The pension increases will cost the state around 31 billion pounds in total, Sisi said, noting that around 37 billion pounds would be allocated for salaries for the 2021/2022 budget.
