Sisi inaugurates first phase of LRT electric light rail

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has witnessed on Sunday the opening of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) from Adly Mansour Central Station to the New Administrative Capital.

The Minister of Transport Kamel El-Wazir explained the mechanism of train’s operation, as he stressed that the maximum capacity is expected to reach about one million passengers per day.

The 103.3-km (64.2-mile) network will be running primarily through east Cairo’s new desert cities linking El Salam, by way of the Adly Mansour transit station, to Al Obour, Al Shorouk, Badr, Rubiki, 10th of Ramadan and Belbeis.

Regarding ticket prices, the first three stations costs 15 Egyptian pounds ($0.80), six stations charges 20 pounds, and 35 pounds for the 12 stations.

The citizens can get the tickets through electronic ticketing machines in the stations, in addition to providing a subscription system for train users on an ongoing basis.

The rail line contains seating places for the disabled and emergency brakes that ensure complete security of the vehicle, El-Wazir added.

Moreover, the minister said that LRT includes surveillance cameras, while the main cabinet equipped with all means of command and control.

The train cannot move without all green lights that ensure safety for passengers, El-Wazir assured.
