Egypt to make Sharm El-Sheikh a green city ahead of COP27 – minister

Egyptian Ministry of Environment announced that work is in progress to transform the Red Sea resort city of Sharm El Sheikh into an environmentally friendly and green city ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference COP27.

The step will realised through cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities to change the operation systems in Sharm El Sheikh’s hotels to depend on solar energy, Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad said on Monday.

Fouad remarks that it also developing the solid waste management system, including changing, collecting, transferring, and recycling methods.

It planned also to boosting dependency on renewable resources at Sharm El-Sheikh International Airport and International Convention Centre, she noted.

She added during the Launch of Sustainability session, held by Narrative Summit – a PR conferences-organising platform, that Egypt seeks also to convert transportation modes in Sharm El Sheikh to use natural gas or electricity.

Climate change resulted from the harmful emissions caused by human activities, represented in the industry, waste, and power plants.

The rise of the Earth’s temperature results in melting the ice and the subsequent rise of sea levels, she stated.

Egypt launches various environmentally-friendly projects that meet with its National Climate Change Strategy 2050, which had introduced in COP26 in Glasgow, including reducing emissions in various sectors.
