Knorr-Bremse awards supply contract from Siemens Mobility for train operation in Egypt

Siemens Mobility has awarded Germany-based company Knorr-Bremse a supply contract to equip 15 high speed Velaro Egypt electric multiple units (EMUs) with braking systems and entrance systems.

The company will install the systems for the 15 trains in three years between 2023 and 2026, and the order includes an option to equip a further 26 trainsets.

Knorr-Bremse executive board member Jürgen Wilder said that this collaboration means that his company can contribute to the further development of safe, available, eco-friendly mobility for the people of Egypt.

Moreover, the new braking systems will ensure highly efficient braking performance in Egypt’s challenging hot and dusty desert climate.

The braking systems will consist of all bogie equipment, axle-mounted and wheel brake calipers, steel discs, and sintered pads, in addition to brake control systems with integrated smart braking computers.

Wilder also expressed his happiness that his company will be able to install its technologies in a whole series of new Velaro high speed trains on behalf of our partner Siemens Mobility.

These trains that can run at speed up to 230km/h, will operate between Alexandria and other key hubs in Egypt.
