UN appoints Egyptian Hanaa Singer as UN Resident Coordinator in Nepal

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has appointed Egyptian Hanaa Singer Hamdy as the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Nepal, as she took her post on 1 January, according to United Nations’ statement on Thursday.

Hamdy expressed his happiness to take over this position after 10 years to begin her role as Resident Coordinator in Nepal, adding “I’m looking forward 2 leading the UN Nepal team to advance the Global Goals, UNSDCF & ensure irreversible LDCGrduation for Nepal by leaving no one behind.”

Hamdy has worked near about 30 years across development and humanitarian contexts at various senior management and strategic leadership roles, while she served as the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Sri Lanka from 2018 to 2022.

Earlier, Hamdy held several senior management positions in the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) offices around the world, including as Assistant Regional Director in Geneva and Country Representative for Syria, Nepal, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan.

Hamdy holds a master’s degree in political sociology and a bachelor’s degree in political science from the American University in Cairo.

She also obtained a diploma in “Planning and Management of Decentralised Development Projects” from Bradford University in the United Kingdom.
