Mercedes set to launch electric van platform
Mercedes-Benz is planning a new expandable platform for its electric vans, to reduce costs by 20 percent, which can make 50 percent of the automaker’s van sales electric by 2030, the automaker announced on Tuesday.
Electric vans are expected to make up 20 percent of Mercedes sales by 2026, with double-digit margins on zero emission model sales by 2030, said Mercedes’ van unit.
“All new midsize and large van models will be based on an innovative, modular, and scalable electric architecture called, VAN.EA, there is a growth potential in the US for premium commercial vans, and China for luxury private vans,” said Mercedes.
Mercedes is expecting a 20 percent growth in online sales by 2026, while Europe’s online sales to increase by 75 percent.
