Africa can become net exporter of lithium batteries – AfDB’s president
The African Development Bank Group (AfDB) wants the continent’s leaders to rather establish plants in their countries, a move that would enable them to become net exporters of lithium batteries and other resulting end products.
“Africa must not make the same mistakes of the past. Africa must set itself up to manufacture lithium-ion batteries, tap into the future market of electric vehicles projected at $7 trillion,” said AfDB’s president, Akinwunmi Adesina.
Adesina made his remarks on Tuesday at the AfDB’s 2023 annual meeting in Egypt, with the theme: “Mobilising Private Sector Financing for Climate and Green Growth in Africa.”
