UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Monday urges an immediate ceasefire in the Israeli aggression on Gaza, saying “the unfolding catastrophe makes the need for a humanitarian ceasefire more urgent with every passing hour.”
Guterres added that the protection of civilians “must be paramount” in the conflict between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas, warning that the Gaza Strip was becoming “a graveyard for children”.
He also appealed for international action now towards “a way out of this brutal, awful, agonizing dead end of destruction”, including to help pave the way to peace and a two-State solution for Israelis and Palestinians.
