Israel kills two journalists, several civilians south of Lebanon

Israel killed two journalists and several civilians south of Lebanon on Tuesday according to press reports.

The two journalists were working for al-Mayadeen television, correspondent Farah Omar and cameraman Rabih Maamari.

The Lebanese National News Agency (NNA) reported “the deaths of three citizens — two journalists and another civilian — in enemy bombing” of the Tair Harfa area.

Al-Mayadeen director Ghassan bin Jiddo said the third civilian killed was a “contributor” to the channel.

“It was a direct attack, it was not by chance,” bin Jiddo said in an interview on the channel.

He also noted that the strike came after an Israeli government decision this month to block access to al-Mayadeen’s website.

The attack took place almost one week after Israel targeted a group of journalists reporting live on the developments from the village of Yaroun, a border town in Bint Jbeil.

In October, Israeli strikes killed Reuters videographer Issam Abdallah and wounded six journalists from Reuters, AFP, and Al Jazeera.

Israel has a long history of targeting and killing Palestinian journalists.

The Israeli military said it was “looking into the details” of the incident.
