Dubai RTA expands fleet with 636 green buses
The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded a contract for the purchase of 636 buses of various sizes, compliant with European low-carbon emissions standards (Euro 6).
Among these, 40 electric buses will be introduced, marking the largest and first of their kind in the United Arab Emirates, with deliveries scheduled for 2024 and 2025.
Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, stated that the procurement aligns with the UAE’s goal to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 and Dubai’s Economic Agenda D33.
The new buses will support RTA’s Public Transport Zero Emissions Strategy, aiming for a 100 per cent conversion to electric and hydrogen-powered buses by 2050.
The contract includes 40 electric buses from Zhongtong, 400 MAN city service buses, 50 Zhongtong city service buses, 76 double-decker buses from Volvo, and 70 articulated buses from Isuzu Anadolu.
These buses, designed to meet high safety and comfort standards, will feature advanced technologies like the Driver Behaviour Monitoring System (Raqeeb), Automated Passenger Counting (APC) systems, and an electronic Driver Identity Authentication system.
