DXB welcomes record 44.9m guests

Dubai International Airport (DXB) has set a new record by welcoming 44.9 million guests in the first six months of 2024, marking an 8 per cent year-on-year (YoY) increase. This surge reinforces DXB’s status as a global gateway, contributing significantly to Dubai’s economy.

In the first half of 2024, Dubai attracted 9.31 million international visitors, underlining its growing appeal as a global hub. Dubai’s GDP reached AED115 billion in Q1 2024, a 3.2 per cent increase from the previous year.

Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, highlighted DXB’s strategic importance as a global aviation hub, crediting strong demand from key markets like India and China. DXB forecasts 91.8 million annual guests for 2024.

India remains DXB’s top destination with 6.1 million passengers. China saw over 1 million passengers, showing an 80 per cent YoY growth. Other significant markets include Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, and Pakistan.

DXB is connected to 269 destinations in 106 countries, served by 101 airlines. The airport managed 216,000 flight movements, a 7.2 per cent increase from last year, and handled 39.7 million bags, the highest ever for H1.

During the second quarter, DXB saw 21.8 million guests and 107,000 flight movements. The airport’s real-time monitoring system ensures efficient guest processing, with 98 per cent experiencing minimal wait times at passport control and security screening.
