Kenya to reintroduce tax measures in parliament – TV report

Kenya’s government plans to reintroduce tax measures to parliament that were previously withdrawn in June following deadly protests, to raise an additional 150 billion shillings ($1.2 billion), Citizen TV reported, citing Finance Minister John Mbadi.

The tax proposals include an eco-levy on most goods, though “sensitive products like sanitary pads would be exempted from the levy,” the minister stated in the interview with the private TV station.

The decision to revive some of these measures is driven by the government’s growing expenditure demands, according to the minister.
