Badawi highlights Egypt’s energy potential at Gastech ’24
Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, emphasised Egypt’s pivotal role as a gateway for natural gas and green hydrogen during his keynote speech at the Gastech Exhibition & Conference 2024 in Houston, Texas. The conference, running from September 17 to 20, 2024, features global energy leaders and key discussions on navigating geopolitical challenges in the energy sector.
In his address, Badawy highlighted Egypt’s strategic position and infrastructure, noting the country’s significant renewable energy resources. He stressed the need for cooperation to optimise resource use and create a favourable investment climate to attract funding for carbon reduction initiatives. Badawy also outlined Egypt’s goal to increase renewable energy’s share to 42 per cent by 2030 and the importance of ensuring natural gas availability for value-added projects.
He discussed leveraging technology to boost production and expedite exploration, and the necessity of regional collaboration to utilise Egypt’s infrastructure for gas liquefaction and re-export to European markets. Badawy reaffirmed the sector’s critical role in Egypt’s economy and the government’s commitment to enhancing investment and cooperation between the private sector and government agencies.
