Shell to halt production at Gulf of Mexico facilities

Shell announced on Sunday that it will temporarily shut down production at its Stones and Appomattox facilities in the Gulf of Mexico as a precautionary measure in response to a tropical disturbance.

The company stated, “We are in the process of safely pausing some of our drilling operations, and currently have no other impact on our production across the Gulf of Mexico,” Shell is also evacuating non-essential personnel from its assets in the Mars Corridor.

The US National Hurricane Centre reported that the system near the Gulf of Mexico has a 50 per cent chance of developing into a cyclone within the next 48 hours. The Miami-based forecaster indicated that environmental conditions favour further developing the disturbance, with a tropical depression or storm likely to form in the coming days.
