Egypt raises Takaful & Karama budget to EGP 54b

Egypt has increased the budget of the Takaful and Karama (solidarity) cash support programme from 41 billion Egyptian pounds to 54 billion Egyptian pounds. According to Minister of Social Solidarity Maya Morsy, 4.7 million families will receive their April payments starting tomorrow, including a permanent 25 per cent increase.

Morsy noted that Takaful and Karama plays a central role in advancing the state’s commitment to social and economic rights, offering conditional cash support to the most vulnerable segments of society while channelling their potential towards sustainable development.

Marking a decade since its launch in May 2015, the programme has supported 7.7 million families across the country. Morsy stated that an international event is being planned to present Egypt’s experience with Takaful and Karama, in collaboration with international partners. She underlined that governance remains a core pillar of the programme, noting that the Social Protection Law—ratified by the President—ensures regulated access to support and safeguards the right to social protection.
