SCZONE lays foundation stone for $50-m Chinese project

Egypt’s Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) witnessed the laying of the foundation stone for a $50 million project by the Chinese company Henneway in the West Qantara Industrial Zone. The project, spanning 120,000 square metres, will focus on travel luggage manufacturing and is set to create 3,000 jobs.

The first phase of the West Qantara Zone encompasses nine projects across various sectors, with total investments of $271 million and over 12,000 job opportunities and contracts are underway for the other 3 projects, Waleid Gamal El-Dien, SCZONE’s Chairman stated.

“The “Henneway” project adds to the record of enhancing cooperation between SCZONE and Chinese investments, which have exceeded $ 3 billion,” Gamal El-Dien added.

Construction is scheduled to begin in January 2025, to be operational by December 2025.

Henneway, a global leader in luggage manufacturing, counts major brands such as Samsonite and Travelite among its clients. The project underscores growing Chinese investments in SCZONE, which now exceed $3 billion.
