OAPEC members approve restructuring, rebranding as AEO
Member states of the Organisation of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC) approved on Monday a comprehensive restructuring plan that includes revising its founding agreement, expanding its operational scope, and renaming the organisation as the Arab Energy Organisation (AEO).
The decision, announced in the final communiqué of the Council of Ministers meeting in Kuwait, grants the General Secretariat the authority to implement the changes. The restructuring marks the first phase of a broader development project, which involves amending the founding agreement to align with the organisation’s expanded role. These amendments will take effect upon ratification by member states in accordance with their domestic regulatory frameworks.
The General Secretariat highlighted that the proposal to restructure and rebrand the organisation originated from Saudi Arabia, aiming to modernise its operations and adapt to evolving regional and global energy landscapes.
