Egypt to boost mining industry with new phosphate complex

Egypt’s Minister of the Public Business Sector, Mohamed Sheemy outlined on Tuesday a vision to develop the mining industry within the ministry’s affiliated companies, focusing on maximising the value addition of natural resources.

During a meeting with representatives from the Al Safy Group, AMIH International Holding, and its subsidiary, Wilson India, Minister Sheemy emphasised the importance of establishing an industrial complex for phosphate ore concentration and fertiliser production, a move that will help modernise national industries, increase the value of local raw materials, and contribute significantly to Egypt’s economic growth.

The meeting reviewed the progress of an industrial complex project at the mines of El Nasr Mining Company, a subsidiary of the Metallurgical Industries Holding Company. Discussions centered on finalising procedures for a joint venture between El Nasr Mining, Al Safy Group, and Wilson India, as well as securing technical support to enhance phosphate ore concentration.

Minister Sheemy stressed the need to leverage advanced technologies to increase value addition and minimise electricity consumption in the production of phosphate fertilisers and related products, such as sulfuric acid and phosphoric acid. This approach aligns with Egypt’s Vision 2030 for sustainable development, creating new job opportunities and boosting foreign currency earnings, he concluded, as per the ministry’s statement.
