European stocks mixed on Monday

European stock markets posted a mixed performance on Monday as investor caution grew ahead of a key US Federal Reserve policy meeting, upcoming corporate earnings, and developments in US-China trade talks.

The pan-European STOXX 600 index was little changed, with gains in defensive sectors such as healthcare and utilities countered by losses in industrials and consumer discretionary shares. Trading volumes remained muted as markets awaited direction on US interest rates and potential progress in trade negotiations between the world’s two largest economies.

Investors are also bracing for a wave of corporate earnings from major European firms this week, which may shed light on the region’s economic resilience amid persistent global headwinds.
