Egypt exports 251K tons of food in 1 week

Egypt exported 251,000 tons of food products in the week ending May 9, with potatoes and citrus fruits topping the list of outbound shipments, according to the latest National Food Safety Authority’s weekly report issued on Sunday.

The number of exported food consignments reached 5,040 amounting to about 251,000 tons, exported by 1,260 companies. These shipments included 640 varieties of vegetables, fruits, flour, and various food products

Potatoes were the standout among vegetables, with 40,000 tons exported, followed by 14,000 tons of fresh onions and 8,000 tons of beans. In all, Egypt exported 80,000 tons of vegetables spanning 53 varieties.

Among fruits, citrus exports led with 46,000 tons, followed by 15,000 tons of strawberries and 9,000 tons of mixed fruits, totalling 70,000 tons across 27 fruit types, the report showed.

Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Italy, and Iraq emerged as the top destinations for Egyptian food exports out of a total of 190 importing countries.
