Cairo gets EGP 100.5b for 2024/25 development plan

Egypt’s Minister of Planning Rania Al-Mashat announced that Cairo Governorate allocated EGP 100.5 billion for 1,284 development projects under the 2024/25 plan, representing 21 per cent of total public investment, as per a Cabinet statement.

Investments were distributed across several key sectors, with transport receiving EGP 38.5 billion, housing EGP 16.5 billion, and pre-university education EGP 10 billion, according to the statement.

Additionally, higher education is allocated EGP 5.8 billion, while the health sector received EGP 4.5 billion, local development EGP 3.4 billion, and other sectors EGP 15.6 billion, the minister explained.

Al-Mashat emphasised that Egypt’s updated national sustainable development agenda—Egypt Vision 2030—is based on the core principle of placing people at the focus of development, as per the release.

She emphasised the need to share comprehensive data on development plans and programmes at the governorate level through the Citizen Plan to increase citizen engagement in monitoring and suggesting priority projects. This helps in participatory planning and localising the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
