Germany’s annual inflation rate fell to 2.1 per cent in April 2025, down from 2.2 per cent in March and 2.3 per cent earlier in the year, as declining energy prices continued to ease cost pressures, data from the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) showed on Wednesday.
Energy prices dropped 5.4 per cent year-on-year, deepening the fall from March’s 2.8 per cent decline.
Food prices rose 2.8 per cent year-on-year, slightly below March’s 3.0 per cent. However, several categories saw sharper increases, with fruit and vegetables up 6.0 and 5.6 per cent respectively.
Core inflation—excluding food and energy—stood at 2.9 per cent in April, while service prices rose 3.9 per cent, up from 3.5 per cent in March.
The harmonised index of consumer prices (HICP) rose by 2.2 per cent year-on-year in April, down slightly from 2.3 per cent in March, confirming preliminary estimates.
