Egypt exports 205K tons of food in one week

Egypt exported 205,000 tons of food products in the week ending May 30, with onions and citrus fruits topping the list of outbound shipments, the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) said in a weekly report on Sunday.

A total of 4,725 consignments were exported by 1,500 companies, covering 600 categories of vegetables, fruits, flour, and processed food items, according to the report.

Vegetable exports reached 53,000 tons across 53 varieties, led by onions at 20,000 tons, followed by potatoes at 15,000 tons and sweet potatoes at 5,000 tons.

Fruit exports totalled 57,000 tons from 26 types, with citrus fruits leading at 20,000 tons, followed by strawberries at 16,000 tons and fresh grapes at 15,000 tons.

The Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Russia and the United States were among the top destinations for Egyptian food exports, which reached a total of 205 importing countries during the week.
