Egypt, S. Arabia explore new ICT cooperation opportunities

Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat and Saudi Ambassador to Egypt Saleh bin Eid Al-Husseini discussed enhancing bilateral cooperation in the information and communications technology (ICT) sector.

The two sides discussed expanding collaboration in digital capacity building, innovation, artificial intelligence, and telecommunications infrastructure to enhance digital integration, as per a Cabinet statement on Tuesday.

Talaat emphasised Egypt’s commitment to building an integrated information society at the Knowledge City in the New Administrative Capital, which houses key institutions like the Information Technology Institute and the National Telecommunication Institute.

He invited the Saudi envoy to visit Knowledge City and review its programmes for digital innovation, electronic design, skilled digital talent development, international partnerships, and research in AI and assistive technology localisation.

Al-Husseini praised the strong and long-standing ties between Egypt and Saudi Arabia, and expressed interest in visiting Knowledge City and Egypt’s digital innovation centres, the statement added.

He suggested potential cooperation between Egypt’s Ministry of Communications and the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) in the fields of tech innovation and entrepreneurship.
