Egypt, UNESCO explore plans to revamp Agricultural Museum

Egypt’s Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk on Tuesday held a meeting with Director of the UNESCO Regional Office in Cairo Noria Sanz to discuss joint efforts to renovate and revitalise the Agricultural Museum in Dokki, Giza governorate, Greater Cairo.

The talks focused on enhancing future cooperation to preserve Egypt’s agricultural heritage and document the historical development of the sector.

Both sides highlighted the museum’s potential to serve as a hub for knowledge and innovation in agricultural heritage and a leading educational and cultural destination both locally and internationally.

The proposed collaboration is expected to include maintenance, conservation, attractive exhibition design, and technical support from UNESCO, including staff training and the use of advanced technologies to ensure long-term preservation of artefacts. Efforts will also focus on promoting the museum globally.

Farouk has instructed the ministry’s technical teams to hold coordination meetings with the ministries of tourism and antiquities and culture to develop a mechanism for preserving the museum’s collections and reopening it to the public, pending UNESCO’s comprehensive assessment of the museum’s development needs.
