Bangladesh signs $400m AIIB climate loan

The Bangladeshi interim government has finalised a deal with the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) for a 400-million-US-dollar budget support loan.

The loan will be used to support important policy reforms to address climate change and promote sustainable development, including the “Climate Resilient Inclusive Development Program — Subprogram 2” within Bangladesh’s Ministry of Finance.

The programme aims to create a supportive environment for implementing climate priorities in government ministries, facilitating adaptation initiatives, and accelerating mitigation measures.

This initiative shows the government’s ongoing dedication to incorporating climate concerns into national planning and development, aiming to enhance Bangladesh’s sustainability and socio-economic resilience.
