Egypt’s Environment Minister heads to UN post

Egypt’s Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly accepted the resignation of Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad, the Egyptian Cabinet announced on Sunday.

Madbouly appointed Minister of Local Development Manal Awad to temporarily assume the duties of environment minister, in addition to her current portfolio, until a new appointment is made.

Fouad’s resignation comes following her selection as Executive Secretary of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), marking the first time an Egyptian has held the post.
