Egypt reviews rice milling output to secure supplies, food security

Egypt’s Supply Minister Sherif Farouk held a meeting on Monday with the heads of rice milling companies under the state-owned Holding Company for Food Industries (HCFI) to assess production levels and review plans to stabilise rice supply, the ministry said.

Talks focused on improving operational efficiency, strengthening coordination with the ministry, and ensuring sufficient strategic stocks of rice, one of Egypt’s key staples. Minister Farouk urged companies to raise production rates and modernise management systems in line with state efforts to bolster food security.

Rice milling companies play a central role in the supply system by providing high-quality rice at affordable prices through HCFI outlets and initiatives such as One-Day Markets, the ministry said.

Minister Farouk added that the ministry will continue regulating the system, monitoring performance, and ensuring market stability to protect consumers and maintain a steady supply at suitable prices.
