EGX strengthens cooperation with Muscat Stock Exchange

Egyptian Exchange (EGX) Chairman Islam Azam met on Monday with Haitham Al Salmi, CEO of the Muscat Stock Exchange (SAOC), to discuss closer cooperation between the two markets and ways to enhance technological and human capital capacities.

The talks focused on expanding financial instruments, including derivatives markets, market-making mechanisms, and securities lending for short selling, with the aim of broadening the investment base in both countries.

The officials also explored ways to strengthen information and expertise exchange, and develop technical and operational frameworks to support joint initiatives, aligning with each exchange’s strategic objectives. Azam stressed the need for regulatory harmonisation to facilitate cross-border investment flows and foster capital market development.

According to an EGX statement, both exchanges are active members of regional and global bodies, including the Arab Federation of Capital Markets, the Federation of Euro-Asian Stock Exchanges, and the World Federation of Exchanges, providing platforms for technical cooperation and knowledge sharing.

The meeting concluded with a commitment to continue joint programs and future initiatives to deepen market integration and align with regional and international financial trends, enhancing the competitiveness and sustainability of capital markets in Egypt and Oman.
