President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met on Saturday with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly and Petroleum Minister Karim Badawy to review Egypt’s strategy to become a regional energy hub and a centre for gas trading.
The meeting focused on offshore and onshore seismic surveys, plans to expand oil and gas exploration, efforts to diversify gas supplies, and investment incentives aimed at positioning Egypt as a top destination for energy sector investment. The officials also discussed coordination between the Ministries of Petroleum and Mineral Resources and Electricity and Renewable Energy to secure gas supplies ahead of the summer of 2026.
Badawy updated the president on the mining sector, including geological reserves and investment indicators. He said Egypt plans to launch its first comprehensive airborne survey of mineral resources in 40 years during the first quarter of 2026 to update geological data and build a database to attract regional and international investment. He also highlighted legislative reforms, competitive gold and mineral exploitation models, a new incentives package for exploration companies, and streamlined licensing procedures, following his participation in the fifth Future Minerals Forum 2026 in Riyadh from 13-15 January.
Sisi instructed the government to ensure timely settlement of dues owed to oil and gas companies and to meet obligations to support higher domestic production. He called for accelerated field development, intensified production, expanded exploration, and additional incentives for investors in the oil, gas, and mining sectors to boost investment and meet growing domestic demand.
