Egypt’s Health Ministry assures stable health situation amid Hantavirus reports

Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population reassured citizens on Friday that the country’s health situation is stable, with no confirmed Hantavirus cases recorded.

The Ministry noted that reports have circulated in the media and on social media platforms regarding limited cases linked to a tourist vessel outside Egypt, stressing that these do not reflect the situation on Egyptian soil.

Officials explained that the Hantavirus has been known for many years, transmitted to humans through exposure to infected rodent secretions, and does not spread between humans — except for a rare strain called Andes, where very limited person-to-person transmission has been recorded among those in close and prolonged contact.

The Ministry confirmed its surveillance system operates around the clock at all ports and airports, in coordination with the World Health Organization, and urged citizens to rely only on official statements rather than social media rumors.
