Egypt to expand healthcare coverage for informal workers, citizens abroad

Egypt is stepping up efforts to expand social protection and healthcare coverage to informal workers, self-employed professionals, and Egyptians living abroad, Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly said on Thursday, following directives from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

Speaking at the Cabinet’s weekly meeting in New Alamein City, Madbouly said the government was coordinating with relevant ministries and state agencies to implement the presidential directives issued during the inauguration of the Strategic Command Headquarters in the New Capital.

“The government is working with the relevant ministries and authorities to implement the president’s directives on extending social protection and healthcare coverage to irregular workers, self-employed professionals, and Egyptians working abroad,” Madbouly said.

He said the initiative forms part of broader government efforts to strengthen the social protection system and improve access to healthcare for groups outside the formal labour market.
