Egypt declares 23 July Revolution anniversary holiday for private sector

Egypt’s Ministry of Labour announced that Thursday, 23 July 2026, will be an official paid holiday for private sector employees covered by Labour Law No. 14 of 2025 to mark the anniversary of the 23 July Revolution.

The ministry said employers may require employees to work on the holiday if necessary. In such cases, workers are entitled to double pay in addition to their regular wage, or an alternative day off upon the employee’s written request, in accordance with the Labour Law.

The decision was issued under Article 129 of Labour Law No. 14 of 2025 and is in line with Ministerial Decree No. 294 of 2025, which lists the 23 July Revolution as an official paid holiday.

It also follows Prime Ministerial Decree No. 2181 of 2026, which designated 23 July 2026 as a paid holiday for employees in ministries, government bodies, public authorities, local administration units, public sector companies, and public business sector companies, while scheduled examinations will continue as planned.

The Ministry of Labour said it had issued a circular to labour directorates nationwide to monitor the implementation of the holiday at workplaces and ensure eligible employees receive their legal entitlements.
