Egypt, ILO aim to launch National Decent Work Programme in Q1-2027
Egypt’s Labour Ministry and the International Labour Organisation (ILO) agreed on Tuesday a roadmap and implementation timetable to launch the country’s National Decent Work Programme in the first quarter of 2027, the ministry said.
Labour Minister Hassan Raddad met Eric Oechslin, director of ILO Country Office for Egypt and Eritrea, to discuss preparations for the programme, which is expected to serve as the main framework for cooperation between Egypt and the ILO on labour market reforms, employment policies, and social dialogue.
The two sides agreed to finalise a detailed implementation plan and reviewed a draft roadmap outlining mechanisms for consultations with key stakeholders. The framework aims to strengthen tripartite cooperation among the government, employers, and workers in line with Egypt’s development priorities and international labour standards.
The programme will focus on expanding employment opportunities, strengthening social protection, promoting social dialogue, and advancing fundamental principles and rights at work ahead of its planned launch in early 2027.
The Decent Work Country Programme is the ILO’s principal framework for cooperation with member states. It is designed around national development priorities while advancing decent work and sustainable development goals through collaboration between governments, employers and workers.
Raddad said the ministry remained committed to strengthening its strategic partnership with the ILO to support labour market reforms, improve working conditions, and boost employment and productivity.
He said those efforts align with directives from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, which place job creation, better working conditions and higher productivity among Egypt’s key development priorities.
Oechslin reaffirmed the ILO’s commitment to its partnership with the Labour Ministry and said completing the National Decent Work Programme would support Egypt’s economic and social development while promoting decent work and advancing the country’s Sustainable Development Goals.
